The DubHub! Where Ideas come to Work
Posted by admin | Filed under Uncategorized
As a freelancer, finding the right space and community to work in, is a huge enabler. When I am physically in a space about ideas, I find my own ideas flow better. When I am surrounded by people who believe in possibilities, my own sense of possibility grows.
Working from home just doesn’t really do it for me. I love silence and solitude, but when it comes to work, long term, I’m best in a collective, open environment.
Here is Dublin I have found great connections, and collaboration potential in various on and offline networks, particularly Social Entrepreneurs Ireland. And for the summer I am hogging some desk space in Suas (with a view of Stephen’s Green- not bad at all!). All of this is good. But there is a concept, originating in London a few years back, which for a long while I wished was here is Dublin. Well, now it seems that the time has come.
‘The Hub’ model is a collective, flexible, co-working space, based on sustainability principles where members come together to grow their businesses, and a community. It is office space, with a twist. More than the practical aspects of a desk, the Hub is a place were ideas and collaboration are nurtured. It’s a ‘more than a sum of its parts’, building a new way of thinking about working.
I’ve been to two hubs in London, one is Islington, and one in Kings Cross- and was mightily impressed. It is exciting to be in Dublin now and see the idea start to come to fruition here. It is at its very early stages, and last night in the Science Gallery saw the first of a series of brainstorming sessions to imagine the possibilities of the place, and help to bring it to life.

Having worked in busy, buzzing offices for years I’m now working from home full time. The proximity to fridge is great but I miss interacting in person, bouncing ideas and chats by the water cooler. I am so looking forward to having a bit of time per week working within a populated space! Tuesday night was great - a lot of good, constructive ideas floating around. Maybe meet you next time.
Cheers!
